How old do I have to be to take a language course?
We accept students from 8 to 17 years old at Alpadia Summer Camps. The age range varies depending on the camp and you can find the specific range in the left-hand side of each camp page on our website.
Do you accept age exceptions?
Some age exceptions might happen in certain camps and might depend on whether or not the student will be accompanied by a sibling.
Where are your camps located?
We have camps in Germany, France, Switzerland, and the UK.
What languages can I learn at Alpadia Summer Camps?
You can learn either French, German or English. Some of our summer camps are bilingual and allow you to learn two different languages if you wish.
Which destination should I choose?
The destination is up to you! Think about your preferences for the language, if you prefer to learn by the sea, by mountains or in a city, or how easy it is for you to get to a particular destination. If you want any guidance, please contact an education advisor to discuss different locations with you.
When would I arrive at my destination?
Arrivals are on Sundays and departures are on Saturdays. We might be able to accommodate extra nights, so do reach out to your representative if you are interested.
Are Alpadia courses accredited?
Yes, Alpadia Summer Camps are accredited by local government-recognized organisations. For example, the British Council, Privatschulregister, FSEP, Erasmus+ and the CSN.

How can I book a course?
Click on “Book Now”. Our team will reach out to you to confirm all the details within 24 working hours. If you are in touch with one of our representatives, you can also fill in the enrolment form sent to you via email. Telephone bookings will need to be confirmed by email. Your booking is confirmed only when you receive a booking confirmation email.
How soon do I need to book a course?
Our summer camps spots are on a first come first served basis and we cannot provide an accurate timeframe as to when you should book. We recommend that you book ASAP to avoid any disappointment.
Can I book initially for one or two weeks and then extend my course?
It might be possible though unlikely as our camps are often fully booked. We encourage you to book the full duration from the start to avoid any disappointment.
What is included in the package price?
Tuition, full-board accommodation, the excursions and activities programme, all meals, 24-hour supervision, teaching material, the student card and welcome pack, the placement test and your course certificate attesting the level obtained.
What will it cost me if I cancel my booking?
Please see our Terms and Conditions “10. Cancellation – Standard policy” section for full cancellation information.
Will I receive confirmation of my booking?
Yes, you will normally receive confirmation of your booking within 48 working hours. If you have not heard anything from us within two days, get in touch as it might mean that your booking has not been received.
Pre-arrival help – summer camps
Are there any forms I must complete before I leave?
All students’ parents must complete our parental consent form via the online portal or mobile application. This includes a free time authorisation form, health form, providing a copy of medical insurance, emergency details, acceptance of camp rules and others.
What should I pack?
The camp info pack has a list of items we suggest you bring with you. There is a specific section dedicated to our exclusive Premium+ activities. You will find this document in the student portal.
Where do I submit my travel details?
All students’ parents should inform us of travel details via the online portal whether they use the desktop version or our mobile application. This applies to students who have or have not booked a transfer.
Do I take a placement test before I leave?
At least four weeks before arrival, all students should complete the placement test which is available on the student portal.
Should I download the mobile app before I leave?
We recommend you download the application to access pre-arrival and transfer information.
Transfers
Will I be met by a staff member at the airport or train station?
The major airport hubs are usually staffed by members of Alpadia’s transfer team. However, on some days and in some locations the student may be met directly by the driver.
Does a staff member accompany me in the car?
Normally students travel without staff members to and from airports and train stations. Alpadia only uses pre-approved transport providers.
Can I arrive and depart from the camp at the beginning or end of my course alone?
16 and 17-year-old students can depart from the camp alone with prior consent from parents (given via the parental consent form). Under 16s must be accompanied.
Can I be dropped off by a relative at camp?
Yes, students are more than welcome to be dropped off at our camps. Check-in times are available in the Centre Guides
I have booked a UM service with my airline, how does the transfer work?
The student will be met by a named person on their arrival and departure. You can communicate this person’s details to the airline. Please note that the named person is subject to change, and you should be prepared to update the airline if necessary. Please check the airline website for their specific policy.
Will I share a transfer with other people?
On our collective transfers yes, you can expect to share the transfer with other students. With our private transfer, you will travel alone or with those travelling with you.
Who do I call if I have a problem at the airport?
If you have a problem during the transfer, please call the camp emergency phone. The number is available in the Centre Guide and on the student portal.
What should I do if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If you have a delayed or cancelled flight please call the camp’s emergency phone. The number is available in the Centre Guide and mobile application.
What happens if I miss my flight?
If you miss your flight please call the camp emergency phone. The number is available in the Centre Guide and student portal.
Where can I find information about meeting the Alpadia staff on arrival?
Details for meet and greets at airports are available in the Transfer Guide. Details for meeting staff directly at camp are available in the Centre Guide. Both documents are available on the student portal.
What happens if I lose my luggage?
If you lose your luggage, you should seek advice from the airport/airline. Alpadia staff, where present, will be happy to assist you with this. However, please remember that our staff will have other students to assist also.
Accommodation
How and when will I find out my room number and location?
You will be given your room number and shown its location during check-in upon arrival at the camp.
What time can I check into my accommodation?
Check-in times are specified in the Centre Guide, which are available in the student portal.
What time do I need to check out of my accommodation?
Check-out times are specified in the Centre Guide, which are available in the student portal.
Can I request to share with a friend?
We are happy to consider requests to share or be near friends. However, Alpadia cannot always guarantee these requests due to the volume and complexity of room planning. We will always try our best.
Is there a damage deposit?
Yes, there is a damage deposit at all our camps to be paid in cash. The details for each can be found in the Centre Guide.
Will I share my room with someone else?
In camps with multi-bedded rooms, you may share with other students. We place students by gender and of similar age.
Will my room be cleaned when I am at camp?
Yes, details of cleaning are available in the Centre Guide. Most are cleaned weekly, including a bedding change.
Do I need to bring bed linen or a towel?
All of our camps provide bed linen. Students should bring their own towels.
What time do I need to go to bed?
Curfew at Alpadia camps is 10:30pm.
Is there WiFi in the accommodation?

Will I be with/close to students my age?
We prioritise sex and age when assigning students to rooms. However, due to the continuous enrolment at our camps, there may be times when students are housed with others who are not their age.
Will students of my nationality be in/close to my room?
We prioritise sex and age when assigning students to rooms.
Will I be sharing with students of the opposite sex?
When planning the rooms we ensure that there is adequate privacy for members of the opposite sex.
Who do I speak to if I have a problem with my room?
You can speak to the camp management team about any issues you have with your room.
Is there laundry at the camps?

Catering
Do you cater for Halal dietary requirements?

What should I do if I don’t like the food?
You can speak to the camp management team about any issues you have with your food.
Can I have extra portions of food if I am hungry?
Normally the canteen staff are happy to provide additional food. You may need to wait until the rest of the students have gone through the canteen first.
Where can I find the menu for the camp?
The sample menu is available in the Centre Guide.
Can I eat or buy my food at the camp?
Yes, students are welcome to eat their own food at camp. Note that some camps have restrictions on eating in rooms or common areas.
Can I drink energy drinks at camp?
Alpadia does not allow energy drinks on camp.
What times will I eat at the camp?
The specific catering times vary from camp to camp. Indicative timings are available in the Centre Guide.
Is additional food available beyond the scheduled catering times?
This varies from camp to camp, please contact your booking advisor for further details.
What will I eat whilst on an excursion?
Normally students are given a packed lunch for full-day excursions.
Courses
Should I choose the Standard or Intensive course?
With the Standard course you will work on four main language skills: writing, speaking, reading and listening. If you opt for the Intensive course, you will have an extra lesson of 45 minutes focusing on oral communication. This extra lesson takes place before lunch and not during any activities.
How many hours are the lessons?
Standard classes last for three hours per day, five days per week, 15 hours per week in total (20 lessons of 45 minutes each). In our Intensive option, there are an additional 45 minutes per day, five days per week, so 18 hours and 45 min per week in total (25 lessons).
What language levels are available at camp?
We have mostly three main groups at camp: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. Bigger camps will offer sub-levels.
How do you decide which level I am placed in?
We assign students their levels based on the result of their placement test.
How do you decide which class I will be in?
We assign students to class based on the result of their placement test and their age.
How do I find out which class I am in?
You will find class lists on the student noticeboard every day. The class list will have your name, class name and class location.
What should I do if I think I am on the wrong level?
You can speak with your teacher about any issues you have with your class or level.
What should I do if I don’t like my teacher?
All of our teachers are professionals and capable of teaching you your chosen language. If you have an issue with your teacher, you should speak to the camp management team.
What are the excursions on offer?
Our curriculum ensures that students keep learning and improving their language skills outside the classroom, on excursions and during extracurricular activities! Teachers will carefully prepare classroom activities based on the places of interest that will be visited so students can learn more about the sights and improve their language skills at the same time. This way students get the most out of their experience in the native environment.
What is the language project?
This programme offers students the opportunity to work together to design, create and exhibit their creations – for example a presentation, poster, video etc. It allows each student to share and learn from each other, develop and showcase artistic, creative or leadership skills, manage time, challenge assumptions and become better communicators. Whether students want to create their class newspaper, direct a play or prepare a business pitch, Project Language will work for them!
What will I learn during the lessons?
The learning objectives for your chosen course are available in the student portal online. They will also be presented to you in class.
What happens in Intensive lessons?
Intensive lessons are smaller classes where we focus on communication (speaking and listening skills).
What do I learn in Private lessons?
Private lessons are based on the objectives of the individuals, this may be pronunciation, fluency, grammar, etc. There is a form you can submit before arrival to let our Academic team know which objectives are requested.
Do I have to go to all the lessons?
Yes, attendance at all Alpadia sessions is mandatory, unless you are sick or if there are extenuating circumstances.
Are all teachers native speakers?
Not necessarily, we don’t discriminate based on native language but require a high level of language competency from our teachers.
Do I stay in the same class for the entire camp?
Classes change every week (every Monday). However, this does not mean that your level has necessarily changed, just that your class might.
Do I receive a certificate?
Yes, every student receives a certificate. This certificate is given at the end of the stay during the graduation ceremony.
What does the certificate say?
The certificate specifies course dates, the language level studied, and teacher remarks.
Is there a mix of nationalities in classes?
Yes, Alpadia tends to have a very good mix of nationalities in our classes.
Are students classed by age range?
Yes, whenever possible we take age into account when forming classes to ensure students are of a similar age.
Can I have both the Intensive and Private courses booked?
Private lessons can be combined with the Standard course only.
Activities & Excursions
What activities will be running at the camp?
Popular activities at each camp are available in the brochure and Centre Guide.
Can I choose certain activities I would like to do?
Yes, at the start of the week, students are normally presented with different options for each day
Can I request activities that are not available?
Yes, speak to the management team if there are activities you would like to do. It may not be possible to organise them, but we would certainly love to hear your ideas.
Do I have to attend activities?
Yes, attendance at all Alpadia sessions is mandatory, unless you are sick or if there are extenuating circumstances.
How do I know where and when to go to activities?
You will find Activity Lists on the student noticeboard every day with your name, the activity you are assigned to, and the meeting point for that activity.
Will I be of the same nationality on excursions?
We do our best to send students of the same nationality on excursions together. This allows us to ensure that students are with their friends.
Will I have free time on excursions?
Students may be allowed free time on excursions if they are aged 14 or older. There is time in the itinerary if parents have consented to this via the parental consent form.
Do we enter all the sites at the excursion destinations?
Most of our excursions are sightseeing tours and do not normally involve entrance to landmarks.
What is the student-to-staff ratio for activities and excursions?
This is normally based on our risk assessment of the activity, but it is typically 1:15-1:20.
Can I leave the camp during activities?
Attendance during activity sessions is mandatory for all Alpadia students. There may be free time available before dinner during which time students aged 14 or older may leave if there is parental consent.
Can I leave evening activities early if I am tired?
Yes, normally the camp management team will allow students to return to their rooms before the end of evening activities if they are tired.
What transportation is used on excursions?
The transport used depends on the camp and the excursion destination. We commonly use coaches in rural camps whereas trains are often used in city camps.
Can I add a Premium+ activity while my child is already in the camp?
This is subject to availability. Please contact your customer care representative to arrange this, if possible.
Welfare and Student Services
Where can I find the camp rules?
The camp rules are available on the student notice board and in the parental consent form.
What happens if break the camp rules?
You may be given a first, second, or final warning or expelled depending on the nature of the behaviour.
How is attendance recorded?
Students' attendance is checked at every session and every meal via a scan of the QR code on their ID card.
Do we have free time?
There may be free time available before dinner during which time students aged 14 or older may leave if there is parental consent. This free time might happen also during the Saturday excursion.
Do we have lessons during a public bank holiday?
Yes, lessons and activities will run as usual.
Why must I wear an ID card?
Students must wear an ID card at all times around camp and during excursions so we can identify them and maintain appropriate security.
Where can I find information about the camp and routine when I am there?
The student noticeboard and the student portal will have a weekly programme and a daily programme up at all times.
What happens if I get sick?
If you get sick speak to the camp management team. The team will speak to you, seek external advice, escalate to doctors, or take you to the hospital if appropriate.
Can you book a doctor’s or dentist's appointment for me?
Yes, if the camp management team, external advice, or parents wish then we can book an appointment for you. Please note this may be an online consultation and will incur extra costs.
Are there doctors or nurses at camp?
Alpadia does not have doctors or nurses on site, but we do have relationships with external practices. The exception is Leysin.
Can I store my medical treatment in a fridge/closet while at camp?
Yes, it is possible but please provide a medical certificate.
Can you provide me with medication?
If parental consent is given via the parental consent form, we can provide non-prescription medication. Please note this is not possible in France.
What happens if there is an infectious outbreak at the camp?
Camps will follow national guidelines in the event of any infectious outbreak.
Can I come on the course if I have a disability?
We will make reasonable adjustments for any students with additional needs. Please speak to your booking advisor regarding your specific needs.
Do I need travel/health insurance?
Yes, it is a requirement for all students to have adequate travel insurance. We recommend booking insurance through Alpadia, but other equivalent policies will be accepted. A copy of your health card will have to be uploaded to your student portal.
Is there a space for storing valuables?
Yes, all our camps have safes where students are welcome to deposit valuables.
Can my family visit me whilst at camp?
Yes, although please note that in some camps they will need to be supervised/stay in public areas during their visit. This must be pre-arranged and approved through your booking agent.
Can I go away with a friend or relative for some time?
Yes, although we require parent’s consent to allow this. Please contact your booking agent to arrange this.
Who supervises the camps at night?
All Alpadia camps have night supervisors.
Can I go to a place of worship during my time at camp?
If a student wishes to attend a place of worship whilst at camp then we will make reasonable adjustments wherever possible.
Prices and Payments
What are the prices for the different camps and courses?

How can I pay for my program?
You can pay online via credit or debit cards as well as bank transfers. Some other options are available locally.
When you speak to one of our student advisors, they'll be able to provide you with a direct link to our online payment page where you will be able to make a secure credit/debit card payment.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes, if you pay in full 30 days before your start date. We will only issue the booking confirmation documents for visa purposes once we have received full payment.
Note: Some countries require confirmation documents before issuing a visa. Consider this when planning your payment schedule.
Is the amount quoted on the website the final amount I will pay?
Unfortunately, because there are so many variations in prices, it is not possible to give the full breakdown on our site. Your final invoice will be emailed to you once you have completed the booking form. However, if you would like the full details of your costs, please speak to your representative.
Can I make a credit/debit card payment online?
When you speak to one of our students advisors, they'll be able to provide you with a direct link to our online payment page where you can make a secure credit/debit card payment.
Do you offer discounted prices or promotions?
Yes. The more weeks you study with us, the bigger your discount will usually be. The tuition discount is already included in the price list. Application fees are waived for alumni or when two or more students travel together.
